Dr. Judy Penski began her professional journey in the world of dance, earning both a BA and MA before discovering her true calling in dentistry. After graduating from Georgetown University School of Dentistry, she became the first female dentist in Washington, D.C. to own her own private practice. In 1983, she opened a tiny one-chair office on Connecticut Avenue, where her artistic sensibility and compassionate care quickly attracted a loyal following, especially among local artists and women seeking a more empathetic dental experience. Her vision was clear: to create a calm, emotionally aware space rooted in human connection.
In 1985, while still in her final year at Georgetown, Dr. Maggie Irvin was introduced to Dr. Penski through a classmate. A D.C. native with deep community roots, Dr. Irvin began renting space from Dr. Penski with the goal of building her own patient base. The two eventually merged their practices as Dr. Irvin balanced her growing career with raising two young children. Their collaboration fostered a uniquely warm and creative environment—one that blended science, artistry, and the shared values of two women dedicated to caring for their patients with heart.
Together, they cultivated a thriving practice known for multi-generational care, often treating entire families over the years. From the front window of their office, Dr. Irvin can see her former high school, Jackson-Reed—a fitting symbol of how their work and lives remain deeply connected to the Washington, D.C. community they proudly serve. Today, the practice continues to carry forward the same values of empathy, excellence, and human connection that inspired its founding.
